Hi everyone,

I am a lil lost and not sure what to do. I just started my application and I dont have a DO letter of recommendation. I am trying my best to get one. I was just wondering if its too late to apply. And also, if I decide to apply, how many DO schools should I apply to?

My stat:
- MCAT: 26 (11 PS/ 6 verbal/ 9 Bio)
- Cumulative GPA: 3.85
- Science GPA: 3.85

Thank you

It's not too late. Since your stats are average for DO with the GPA being a bit above the DO average, I would apply if I were in your position. The pragmatic thing would probably to apply to 8 schools where your stats are either the average or a little bit above average. I hope you have a MD letter in lieu of the DO one though. Applying without a physician letter is more risky, but people have been accepted without them. So if you can financially afford a test run this year, then do it. But submit soon, and good luck!

Just make sure to do your research. Some schools do not require a letter of recommendation from a DO, and will accept one from a MD. Also, there are schools that have a cutoff of a 7 in each section of the MCAT. Do your homework and apply broadly (but most importantly, smartly).

Your GPA is competitive and your MCAT is a bit below avg but you can bank on an interview then possibly acceptance once you get a DO letter.
