Hi there,

I'm a Canadian student applying for optometry in the states. So far I have applied to NECO and SCCO. In Canada, we don't have any standardized test such as the SAT for entrance into University. However, when i e-mailed the admissions office at NECO to see if they have recieved all of my application materials, they told me that they are missing my SAT scores. I also got a postcard in the mail stating the same thing. Is this part of the application waived for Canadian students, or do i have to write the SATs now? I'm so confused, i never thought that we had to do that but now i'm afraid that it is slowing down my app process!

i don't know the exact anwer to that question, but when i applied last year, the schools that i applied to never asked me for my SAT scores.

SAT is multiple choice, like the OAT, so I don't know if you actually "write" anything. Unless, that's how Canadians say taking a test? 🙂

Anyway...just call them up and explain your situation. Seems like you haven't made direct contact with them regarding this matter.

haha actually i guess canadians do say "write tests" or "write exams"..hmmm

well i emailed them back about the matter and i haven't gotten a reply yet...i guess i am just anxious

Hi there fellow Canadian!

I also applyied to NECO and I got no such response from them. I am just about 100% sure that you do NOT have to take the SAT b/c our school system curriculum is standardized as it is for the most part. The only thing I could see if you accidently checked off the SAT box rather than the OAT box or something when you completed the application.

In any case, we both in the same boat if it is required!😕

Good luck at interviews! If you are going to the Oct. 13 date I will see you there!

Best wishes 😛

Thanks for the reply eye candy! Where in canada are you from? Yeah i think it was just a mistake...i emailed them last wednesday but haven't received a reply so maybe i will call them today just to double check! When did you have all your application materials submitted??

Hey!

I have been in Ontario for all of undergrad. For NECO, I had my application in Aug1, the OATs done by Aug 16 (at which point I faxed the scores in so they would have something to go with until the official score report was processed and mailed) and my academic LOR's were not sent till beginning of september (typical prof's give them all the info in may and it is still done late! ARGH!). I heard about an interview around September 12.

Hope that all helps!

Unless things have changed in the last few years you do NOT, as a Canadian, need to write the SAT to get into a US graduate school. Undergrad is a different story.

Yea thats right....we do not need to take the SAT🙂

thanks for the replies everyone! I called NECO this afternoon and they confirmed that they now have all my application stuff and they will be reviewing it very soon!

eye candy- i'm from edmonton- your rival city! haha Is NECO your first choice??
