Do committee letters have to be made from specific people?

Most D schools say something along the lines of "2 science professors and 1 dentist, or a composite committee letter"

Does this mean that the committee letter should be made from evaluations from 2 science professors and a dentist? I ask because I currently have a science professor and 2 dentists. My other science professor bailed on me, otherwise I would have had 2 science and 2 dentists!

Can committee letters be made from any combination of professors and professionals?

It depends on your school. In my school it's a long process where you actually submit a request form along with all of your letters, DAT scores...etc and the committee evaluates you and only accepts to write a letter of recommendation only to those individuals who they believe have good chances of admissions after an actual interview with them. I am not sure if other schools have the same process, but I've called a few dental schools and they prefer committee over individual letters. (some will even tell you at their website). Hope this helps!

My school is pretty laid back about it. I graduated 3 years ago, and I've just been going back and forth through email with them about it. They will write the committee letter with whatever they have evidently, but I don't know if the dental school itself will look at it and say... "What the deuce? This committee letter was composed based off of the evaluations from 2 dentists and 1 science professor!"

So, I know my school will write the committee letter, I just don't know if the d-schools have some sort of requirements for what has to be in the committee letter.

My school requires 2 science professor, 1 non-science, and one practicing dentist recommendation. Most dental schools say they will accept a committee letter in the place of their specific recommendation requirements.

As long as you have a committee letter, then that will count for most of the schools in place of the 3 letters. Some require a letter from a dentist so as long as your letters are attached with the committee letter you should be fine.
