I got a 17 on the DAT for the QR. The lowest section by far. I was never asked once about it at any of my six interviews. also in once case (uconn) the dean told me that his committee "holds no weight for the QR and the school is asking it to be removed from the test" ....let me know what you all think

The QR affects the AA. So whether they are concerned about your specific QR score or not, they do ultimately put weight on the section.
And a 17 is not that bad for QR. I met kids at interviews with 13's on QR.

I didn't submit 'til August, had a QR of 13, and received 6 interviews (Creighton, UCSF, Louisville, Marquette UNLV and Midwestern). Honestly, I think if your application is otherwise strong, QR really doesn't matter.

It effects you AA which is looked at , but I do not know of one school who looks directly at that score. Personally, I wish it was looked at higher.. I did very well 🙁 LOL

Its definitely the opposite for the majority of us! I am normally great with math and went up through calc II as an undergrad, but hadn't had any of the basic algebra/trig stuff in YEARS when I took the DAT, so I bombed that section (15 QR). Still got several interview invites and a couple acceptances. The time constraint is tough on everyone...I'm glad they don't put much weight on it!

If you look at Doc Toothaches data gathered from ADA, you will find that for US Dental Schools the average order of importance on the DAT is:

AA (1.17) > TS (1.20) > RC (1.35) > BIO (1.39) > OC (1.46) > GC (1.5) > PAT (1.65) > QR (2.26)

In addition, if factor in the "other factors" you will find that in general US Dental Schools value the following in this order:

Interview (1.07) > SCI GPA (1.09) > AA (1.17) > Overall GPA (1.19) > TS (1.20) > RC (1.35) > BIO (1.39) > OC (1.46) > GC (1.5) > LOR (1.63) > PAT (1.65) > Man Dext (1.90) > Non Sci GPA (2.02) > QR (2.26)

I wish PAT was ranked higher, I eat those for breakfast.

... eat those for breakfast haha thats funny stuff it reminds me of happy gilmore "you eat pieces of **** for breakfast. gross" hahahaha

i got a 17 on qr too... the rest was really strong and i was never asked about it either so im glad the last guy came up with some stats on it... answered my question.

Then why is math calculated in the science gpa? I did great in sciences in college but bad in math, so it brings my Sgpa way down. Screw that.

1. Math is calculated in AA and AA is important as you see above. They may not look at this section individually, but it is important.
2. If Math is not science then what is it? Then one can argue that Chemistry is chemistry and not science. Just because some due poorly in Math or physics does not mean we have to take them out.

Seriously I can't believe you are saying math should be considered non-sci!!

I'm a science major, and math isnt part of my classes to choose. Its a university requirement, but not for my major. My required physics is algebra based, which i learned in middle school. Math is a non-science in my mind, its in its own category, but as you said my opinion in this does not matter, I just highly disagree with the fact that its considered a science. Then again I also dont really consider physics a science, more in the math category.

Math sucks! Just kidding. I like math but don't consider it science. Maybe because the highest math class I took was calculus in high school!

Yes it matters. Does it matter alot? Given the data now, it does not.

First, QR affects the academic average. In addition, you do not want any section score glaringly low - even QR.

Considering its not hard to get an average score in math (around 17) I would study for it.

Don't get the impression that one can not study math and get like a 13, and expect to be alright!

The moral is to study hard for everything. The fact is the exam assigns you a score for the subjects tested - math included. The admissions committees compares each applicant's scores. Given the situation where all other things to consider are equal among two people, wouldn't you rather be the one with the higher QR score?

Something to think about.

I'll take QR over physics ANY DAY

If they don't they should; after all, a successful dentist, who is good at math, is more likely to make a donation to the school than one who is not.

Well in that case, I am glad I didn't score high in QR lol!! Rule of thumb, no donation is needed when you score below a 20. I'll probably donate ANYWAY later on.

it depends.
First time: My QR is 13, My AA is 18---> No love from any schools.
Second time: My QR is 14, My AA is 22 <thanks to TS😛>------>Love from every school.

14 in QR and 6 interviews. I remember looking at my DAT score readout and scrolling down the page one by one. I got through everything besides QR, which all was ~20 and then I got to AA which was 18 and I was like "Damn you QR!" The cars driving by were probably like "wtf?"

Yep, a low QR score will not hurt you too much assuming the rest of your scores are good. I got a 15 on the QR and received 8 interviews.

I was worry and disappointed when I saw my QR score (12 😱) ... It was my first (and only) try at the DAT... my other scores were not that great either (check predents.com if you want [tootiemonster])

I received 7 interviews invites:
- 3 were before Dec 1st (NYU, Temple and BU)
- 4 were for after Dec 1st (Indiana, UMDNJ, Case, Pittsburgh)

I didnt go to any the interviews after Dec 1st bc I got in to all 3 school that I interviewed at on Dec 1st (BU and NYU were my top choices) ... I even got into BU the day after my interview (which was on Nov 30th)! So if you ask me I'd dare to say QR is not that important if the rest of your application is solid! I think the PS is very very very important bc is your chance to represent your self as a person and not as a set of numbers and stats!

Good luck!

I really dont think that many schools care about the QR section, even though it`s calculated in your AA, I think they look at the QR just to see how much more youre AA would have been if it wouldn`t have been affected by the QR section.
