The Mayo Clinic is arguably a top 3 hospital. If you are worried about the initials, think again. If you have an opportunity to attend a DO school, strongly consider it. If you want to go to the Caribbean then that path will serve you well too. But don't avoid a DO school because of the false notion that people will think less of you. That stigma is fading fast as a DO is actually TEACHING the most selective field of medicine at the prestigious Mayo Clinic.

There are a lot of DO's here...ortho, IM (neph, critical care, GI, etc), FP, surgery, peds, neuro, PM&R, psych, etc. It's really not a big deal.

There should be some sort of DO board on SDN where you can talk about things like this....wait a second...there just might be one where you beat the dead horse known as "DO vs. Caribbean."

In addition to what the OP states, - there are Caribbean grads in Derm, Rad-Onc (Steph from SDN) and other competitive programs as well.
