Do disadvantaged applicants get evaluated any differently?

As a disadvantaged applicant myself, I've always wondered if schools would realize that even to attain the average for me was such an immense struggle growing up in an under served community and the financial struggle ontop of it.

While it isn't an excuse, is there an additional evaluation process that happens? Is this something that should be brought up during an interview?
Id love some insight!

At my school, it does get brought up from time to time in our Adcom discussions. We like come-from-behind/rags-to-riches/overcoming obstacles stories.
