I don't even think allopathic schools know which ones you applied to last year or even that you applied (unless you applied to their program). Definitely, osteopathic schools do not know.

Word does tend to get around. A better question is "Do they care?"
For the most part they don't unless yous Pr claims that you only want to be a DO or something to like that.

They don't care. I mentioned I applied and was accepted to a couple M.D. schools at my WVSOM interview. I had an acceptance letter in hand 3 weeks later. I chose WVSOM and now I am WVSOM bound in 2 weeks. 🙂

I have never heard of them "finding out"...but it really isn't advisable to "lie" on your interview...as if you get caught...the ramifications would NEVER be worth it...

If they really don't care, why do you also say that "word does tend to get around."

Word doesn't get around, and being a re-applicant (who has added more to the application in the down year) are often looked on more favorably. Re-applicants who have done next to nothing in the down year have the worst fate.

Schools really don't care where you applied or how many schools you applied to unless you applied EDP.

They know, that unless you apply EDP, you have applied to more schools.

Seriously if they ask... tell them and move on. Don't apologize for applying elsewhere. You usually have valid reasons to have applied to certain other schools. Some may be closer to family, some in a cheaper area to live, some may have better programs, some may offer you money, etc...... All valid reasons to apply to a list of other schools.
