If my daughter "looked down" on me (18 months from becoming an MD) I'd slap her into the next week😛.

Goodness no - do your job & they'll respect you. They may not thank you, but they just expect you do to you job.

Most doctors, especially younger ones, do have respect for what pharmacists do. Most will take your advice into consideration.

We have drugs to treat that condition...

And yes yes yes...doctors look down upon us... I always give them full attention and salute as they walk by.

Oops I meant pharmicists. My doctor friends tell me that all pharmacists do is count pills, and they are basically like low-level cashiers. They are not even allowed to prescribe medication. So basically, says my doctor friends, pharmicists wish their lives were as interesting and important as that of doctors. Many pharmicists originally wanted to be doctors, but either could not get in, or was not willing to pay the sacrifice. Is this all true? Is this why doctors seem to look down upon the pharmicists? I mean, sure the doctors act nicely toward the pharmicists, but don't they see them as inferior deep down inside? What does that make the pharmicists feel like?

Well if your what your doctor friends say are true, us PHARMACISTS are really just highly paid cashiers that count pills or data entry in hospitals making sure that your doctor friends didn't screw up and almost kill a patient (Oopss!!!)
Sorry, we are part of the health care team too and look out for the best interest of the patient. We handle all the dirty work once the patient leaves a doctor's office.
If this is the attitude you have going pre-medical, kiss your medical career goodbye. No school will admit you with that attitude and with more and more hospitals having pharmacists round with doctors, you will get nowhere in your career fast. Better change that attitude fast and you never know, you may become one of those over-paid cashiers some day!!!!

The MDs who look down upon pharmacists are the type of people who look down upon all the health care professionals except other MDs. They are the ones who give MDs the bad rap among the lay public that they're all egotistical jerks who seem to care about patients only on the surface while truly caring about themselves most of all. Don't become one of those a-holes. They are the adult grown up equivalent to the kind of brat kids you see on MTV reality shows.

As for thinking that pharmacists only count pills, just use your critical thinking skills to consider what we actually do. If you really have to ask these sorts of questions then should add some more to your list (ie. should I become a doctor?, or even go into the health care field?, etc.).

One last piece of help, it's spelled pharm-A-cist not pharm-I-cist. You're almost there, but at least the antibiotic jokes should stop.

Yup, those few MD's who think that also think that:

1) nurses are the scum of the hospital
2) dentists are wanna be MD's who couldn't hack it
3) optos are wanna be MD's who couldn't hack it
4) the world revolves around the MD and everyone should bow down and salute upon passing by
5) all other fields of study are there to serve the MD

i had a friend who worked for an a-hole doctor that was like this...constantly made their staff uncomfortable (even cry). No wonder the guy had higher turnover than CVS clerks

Seriously, anyone without a MD title is inferior to them (including doctors with a DO title)...

You may want to learn how to spell before going to medical school. Do Mds look down upon pharmacists? Only the A-hole friend of yours who has no insight into healthcare. You can tell him the next time he writes a script and makes a mistake, us "cashiers" will just ring up the script and let it go since that's all we do. Don't be a *******

And I also call them Sir Doctor Sir, or Ma'am Doctor Ma'am!

If they look down on me so much I dont understand why theyre always calling me and asking me drug questions.

Seriously, I feel offended by you even asking us (pharmacists and pharmacy students) about this ridiculous topic. Sure, there are MD who think the world is made to worship them. But those should be denounced and you need to get your thought straight about this attitude like the other poster said. If you think that you just apply to pharmacy school because your MD dream broke, I'm sure 100% you'll be miserable in your future pharmacy career!! And you apply to med school with this mentality, wait until you get into your MD position and have problems with drugs/therapeutics and see where you'd turn to!!! Your books in medical school? Sure, do it and come back to see the patient already dead!

Pharmacitis... LMAO!

I have a case of that...

So do doctors look down upon pharma[cists]?

There was one time a doctor looked down on me. Then again, he looked down on most people.

He was 6'11" (and a great basketball player too, I hear) 😀

Some doctors wish they wouldn't have wasted 10+ years of their lives and had become pharmAcists.

Do they give antibiotics for pharmacitis?

WTF is up with the trolls today?

Without the trolls its no fun. Then we are stuck making fun of CVS to p*ss Old Timer off and answering kinetics questions.

By the way I need to call in sick this weekend I think I have pharmacitis....Possible long term disability condition may take awhile to heal....

I hope the doctors are looking down on me when they're operating on my Pharmacitis....
