do ECs and majors have to correlate?

up till recently i thought i was really fixed on majoring in sociology and history but i came across this new program at my school that incorporates political thought and law and it seems to really interest me. so much so that I really want to major in it. but I wanted to ask a question about this before I make that decision.

my ECs don't really connect with my major AT ALL! i have leadership in a multicultural medicine organization and part of student government safety and wellness committee and leadership in neuroscience club. there were all interests of mine and they are something i really like. but do you think it would raise a flag to the admission officers if they notice that i have NO EC's that relate to my major? (as far as clinical experience goes I will be an ER scribe and be part of a hospice program and have shadowing; i also have research experience in nephrology)

help me SDN!

thanks for your reply! that helps ease my mind a bit.

i've always thought that i should be able to tell a story with my application and i am a little concerned that based on my ECs the only major that can complete the story is a hard science one.

No. Simple as that. My advise that I've received is do what you enjoy. It doesn't have to correlate with your major, as (from what I was told from medical students) they don't care what you major in. As long as you put effort into it and get something out of it, that's fine. I'm only in a few things so far, but I'm about to start my sophomore year. Best of luck to you.. 🙂

Thanks. I'm about to start my sophomore year as well! Good luck to you
