Does anyone have a good idea by school or as a collective idea of how schools calculate GPAs?

I'm asking because I am a non-traditional student - I have a lot of previous schooling which had a weak GPA in the early years and am trying to see if this will pose a negative impact. The earlier grades are all non-prereqs and would be electives.

Any experience or insight would be appreciated, thanks!

I'm kind of confused about your question. The individual schools do not calculate your grade, AACOMAS does. If you've retaken any classes the retake grades will be calculated into your GPA rather than the original grade although both will be seen. I think the adcoms will view your app better if you have a strong upward trend in your grades.

Schools see all your grades.

Gotcha - no problem with schools seeing all grades. I'm trying to get the idea of where the mean GPA is derived from,.... all grades...or pre-req grades..or last x number credits. I see the GPA and MCAT scores and am trying to see where i fit in, thanks!

AACOMAS will calculate a cumulative GPA, science GPA (not just the prereqs) and an all other GPA. Oh and your science GPA is only BCP.

AMCAS is BCPM.

thats awesome
i think its crazy how with the same exact numbers, my application will look so much stronger for a DO school rather than for a MD school just because of the way they calculate their BCP and the retake grades.

Yes I do love AACOMAS. 😍
