I am trying to spend this upcoming year rebuilding my GPA and shoot for DO school. My question is about the grade replacement policy. If you scored a C in a class twice (4 credit hours), the 2.0 will count 8 times against you. I took the class at my new school and got an A. When calculating my replacement, would the A replace both Cs? I don't think it would, but I am trying to be 100% sure. So instead of the 2.0 counting 8 times, would it become a 4.0 counting 4 times? (btw, when I say 8 times, I mean 8 credit hours)

Nah because on the app when you are inputting the courses, you select REPEAT 1 (being the original time you took it), then for the retake you select LAST REPEAT 1 (being the final time you took it). There is not even an option for 3 retakes. They simply count your most recent repeat of the course I believe.

Just to make sure I am understanding this correctly, they will simply look at the last time I took it, being the A?

Like when you are entering the information on the courses on the application, the last section of your course information is the "classification" option. Here you have the option to put if the course was pass/fail etc. But here you also have the option of putting it as a repeat or not. So lets say its bio 101, heres how you would do it
Bio 101 C
Bio 101 C REPEAT 1
Bio 101 A LAST REPEAT 1

I would definitely shoot them an email though, they are super fast and helpful. But I imagine that that is how it would be done. They could tell you otherwise though.

The grades should be input as follow:
Bio 101 C REPEAT 1
Bio 101 C REPEAT 1
Bio 101 A LAST REPEAT 1

Check in the AACOMAS instruction manual on page 18-19. The first two C grades will be replaced by the A (4 credits of A will be counted and 0 credits of C).

One more question.

If my old school had biology I as a 5 credit course and at my new school that I aced it in it is a 4 credit course, how would that work?

I understand from the instructions manual that it must be equal credits but since in this case it is not, what outcome can i expect?

they don't replace it if the unit credits are lower they simply average it. If it was 5 quarter unit vs 4 semester units then yes they would replace.

my current dilemma is this, at my original school orgo 1 was a 5 credit course (lab included) and at the school that I plan to attend for a DIY postbacc orgo 1 is split into lecture(4cr) and lab(2.5cr). Would anyone happen to have any insight on a situation as such in regards to grade replacement policy for D.O schools?

I'm not sure exactly how AACOMAS will split it up, but I'm sure they will.
The reason I say this is that I am in a similar situation with other classes I retook and so I wrote them.
In their response, they said my new (retake) 4-hour class would still be split up into a 3-hr lec and 1-hr lab.
So for example, if you received a B in a 4-hr lec/lab class, it would split it into two grades, a B for the 3-hr lec and a B for the 1-hr lab.

If that's the case then what you said makes complete sense, I just don't want to retake these classes just to not have them acknowledged as "retakes". Have you already started taking courses over? if so how is it going?

Yes, the original was a 3-hr lec, 1-hr lab, replaced with a 4-hr. I've retaken a LOT of classes. Just a few more to go. 🙂

I took a quarter based course and this was a repeat for a class at a cc I did notice the points were not the same and I would call and ask AACOMAS since I was not able to use as repeat.

You need to find out the conversion ratio for quarter to semester units at the school that uses quarter units. This should be the same ratio that the school will include on their transcript. For example if the school that you're taking the retake at says that 1 quarter unit is equivalent to 2/3 semester units, then to replace a 5 semester unit course, you'd have to take 7.5 (or realistically 8) quarter units at that school.

Again this is school dependent, so you need to figure out the conversion ratio that your non-semester unit school uses to compare their units to normal semester unit/credit hours.

I emailed about this similar situation. They said that they would manipulate the original class into a 3 credit/2 credit situation in order to accommodate the new class. As long as the total lecture/lab credit hours are equal to or more than the previous then they will make it work.
