Do I even have a chance with too many W's and NC?

I have a lot of W's (15) and 1 NC grade for ochem. 8 of those W's were due to extreme family situations (2 times) and they are from my community college and first state university. I know this is very bad on my transcript. I'm currently trying to finish my BS degree in Nutrition at another state university and then apply to dental school. My overall GPA is 3.5 and GPA at my current state university is 3.7. I got 1 more year to go. I'm trying my best to not get anymore W and I'm doing pretty good at my second university so far. I have about 2 years of dental-related work experience about 2 years ago and I am looking for some more experience in the field. I don't know if I even have a chance to get into dental school. 🙁

Its hard to answer this question. 15Ws def affects your app and you cant do anything about it. You cant turn back time. Work with what you have. Your GPA is good but I think you need to explain 15Ws somewhere in your application.

Your best bet is to call your state dental school, make an appointment with the dean and talk to him...
Good luck.

There is also a section on the AADSAS application, where you can write any issues that adversly affected your education (i.e. death in family, parents divorces, sickness etc.). In that area I suggest you write about your extreme personal/family issues and that many "W"s resulted from that situation.

The above suggestion is great except for the fact that it only explains 8 of the 15. I think you might have an uphill battle but it's up to you. Good luck!

Where did the other 7 W's come from.. ?

Those W's will be a big red flag to probably every school you apply to. I would do what "tothepark" suggested and really emphasize the family situations as much as possible. Maybe throw in some other personal stuff if you can think of some. Also kick the **** out of that DAT. If you do those things and apply to ~20 schools you may have some sympathizers on your side and interviews!

Best of luck amigo :luck:

Of course you still have a shot at Dental School. There's been people with 10+ W's who have been accepted. But from what I recall, many of those people accumulated those W's 10 or so years ago and they are a non-trad returning (or something of that nature).
