Hello everyone,

I'm a pre-med student, I'm a sophomore. My problem is or my biggest concern is that English is not my first language and it's hard for me to understand some of the science classes that I'm taking now. I'm doing well in my other classes but science. Any ideas to help me improve my English better?.

The second thing is due to my undeveloped English I had to drop bio101 two time!!! Is it bad to have two W for the same course? I'm really concerned about not having any chance to get accepted to any medical school I love science and I want to become a neurosurgeon.

Write more slowly on subsequent posts, no wonder your professors have trouble.

Seriously, I'm probably in the minority with this statement, but I think anyone and everyone who wants to become a doctor CAN IF they are willing to put in sufficient work. For some, their hang up may be biology, chemistry, or the MCAT, for you it's english; which is probably translating into the sciences for obvious reasons.

Knowing this, I'd suggest you pause heading directly for your goal, you don't want poor grades or W's causing you problems later. Work on the language, get that under control, and then pick up where you left off.

It's my first time posting something here 🙂
Thank you for your advice.

No one can provide an accurate assessment of your chances without having completed all of the prerequiste coursework, taken the MCAT, and rounded out the application with strong/stellar ECs such as clinical volunteering, non-clinical volunteering, shadowing, research, etc.

Get back to us when you are further down the line.

Best of luck to you.

If English is that much of a hindrance, you could get something like Rosetta Stone and take a semester/summer off and learn English better. Its probably less of a headache to push everything aside and focus on English vs trying to learn some complex stuff with broken English.

Definitely master English first. Without mastering English there is no way you can master the sciences, write a good personal statement, and kill an interview, all of which are necessary.
