Hi, I applied in August 2009 and have received some rejection letters but no interview invitations. I realize that I may have to start thinking about next year's cycle and retaking the DATs, but I was wondering if I still have a chance for this year. Should I hope, or should I start making plans for next year? thanks

BCP: 3.22
Science GPA: 3.26
Non-Science GPA: 3.95
Total GPA: 3.58

DATs
Biology: 16
Gen Chem: 19
O Chem: 16
Quantitative Reasoning: 22
Reading Comp: 21
PAT: 18
Total Science: 17
Academic Average 19

where did you apply?

but never give up hope....

If you could boost your stats up a little bit, you will have a chance, but right now not so much.

I would aim for 20+ on Bio, Gen Chem, and Organic Chem. Everything else you have RC, and QR are fine. The PAT could use a 1-2 point boost.

Your science GPA is below average, so you need a better DAT score.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

I applied to: ASDOH, BU, Case, Columbia, Creighton, Howard, Loma Linda, Marquette, Meharry, NYU, Nova, Temple, Tufts, Detroit Mercy, Kentucky, Louisville, UMDNJ, Pittsburgh, UoP, UNLV, VCU, WVU, Midwestern.

I was rejected by👎
ASDOH (Oct 16)
Case (Oct 10)
Loma Linda (Nov 12)
Marquette (Feb 01)
Meharry (Dec 07)
Nova (Dec 07)
Louisville (Feb 02)
UNLV (Nov 02)
Midwestern (Jan 04)

pray...or brush up on that orgo and bio. This is what it's all about champ.

I would definitely retake the DAT. Heck, study for an hour everyday if that's what you need to get a really awesome score. They don't call it the great equalizer for nothing...

Your stats scream that you're weak in the sciences. The best advice is to retake the DAT and get a killer TS. Maybe that will show them you can handle the heavy dose of science classes you'll get in dental school.

I wouldn't retake the DAT's if I were you; those are solid scores! Heck, two of my room mate's friends got in with a 13!

If I were you I'd rather focus on extracurricular activities. That's what really matters!

Oh, and once you get any interview, that means - you're automatically in! Just don't forget to smile alot, showing off perfect teeth (the ultimate pre-requisite for dental school admissions).

I almost forgot to say that this does not apply to under-represented-minorities (URM's). No URM's are ever accepted - affirmative rejection and all.
