Do I have a chance?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
look at my stats (i think pg 11 on the 2004 stats page). that should answer your question.

You definitely have a chance.

I feel like I have a slight chance of getting into some place and my stats are a lot worse than yours...STATS page 10.

QR 16 🙁
RC 21
Bio 21
G. Chem 21
O. Chem20
Total Science 21

I know...pretty inconsistent. Thanx in advance.

when did you submit your application, and what schools did you apply to?

YIKES! 10/26 🙁 ... I really don't know. You have a chance with BU and Howard probably but I dunno about the others. The reason I think this is because you turned your application in so late.

I can say you will get accepted at Boston Univ, NYU; probably Nova, and Michigan cuz you are instate. You'll probably get an interview at Temple. Forget about UPENN, Virginia and Buffalo.. Then when you get Loma Linda's secondary I dont think you will want to go there. However this is WHAT I THINK .....

It's ignorant CRAP like this that incites people to panic around here. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with submitting an application in October. All it means it that you'll probably have to wait till after December 1 to start hearing decisions back from schools.

I've said it a hundred times, but once again, I submitted my AADSAS at Christmas, interviewed in mid-February, and got my letter a week before my tuition deposit was due. October is nothing to worry about.

Dude, what the hell is your problem? I was just giving her my opinion. A lot of deans told me it is better to turn in your application early.

Darn Bill, why dont you take it easy?!

The poster was just giving HIS opinion. Just becuase you applied in Dec and got in doesnt mean applying late is ok. Personally, I would agree with the poster in saying applying in october is kinda late. (especially with marginal stats)

We all have opinions, and we come here to discuss them. Your harsh reactions just scare away new posters, which is counterproductive.

Well, I'll try to sum up what all of you have said because all the comments had some merit. Although you have less chance than someone with equal stats who applied earlier in the cycle, that doesn't count you out. There are plenty of positions to be filled. Your DAT scored lacked consistency as you said, but overall..not too bad. At some of my interviews, I was told that either extremely GREAT or extremely BAD DAT's are cause to look closer and I wouldn't put your scores in either of those categories. I know plenty of applicants who have applied and haven't received any interviews because of a low DAT score and they are retaking them. You are right in the same boat as all of them as far as timing. Best of luck to you...you've still got a goot shot....but ya just may hear back a little later.

I agree with aphistis

There's nothing wrong with giving your opinion. But there's something wrong with stating things that you have no idea about. Schools except people as late as May and June. Who are you to say what schools he has a chance to get into or not? You never served on the admission commity so you don't know his chances. Nor do you know exactly how his timing is hurting him, so before telling him exactly what to do consider if what you know is factual.

My problem is exactly what I said it was. Your comment was ignorant, and worse, it couldn't have done a better job of discouraging the OP if you'd calculated it. Several deans probably have told you that it's better to turn in an application early, and they'd be statistically correct; that's a damned far cry, however, from the "I don't know if you have even a chance at most of the schools you applied to," comment you posted originally.

To Shawn (and the number of people probably agreeing with him silently), I agree my response was pretty forceful--but how many posts have gone up in recent weeks about how foolishly paranoid and panicky a number of the members here have become? Alarmist posts like the one I criticized are the reason that problem exists in the first place, and I'd much rather be accused of confronting a problem too directly than ignoring it while it worsens.

Well, if I was as bald as he is, i would be an dingus too.

As long as my buzz haircut remains the most substantive rebuttal people can muster, I'll consider myself ahead of the game.

Yeah, calm down aphistis. It's comments like yours that destroy perfectly good threads. Trust me, I know. I've destroyed a few myself. Now, arrepientete aphistis!!!

Welp, looks like flong is back. 😳

Hey flong, how you been bud. That's some funny shiat there w/ the picture of Bill. Man I about lost it in the computer lab.

Sounds like Pres Bush's policy on Iraq.

In the future, may I suggest giving a reason why you believe someone is wrong, and POLITELY correcting the error. These dental boards should be a place where people feel comfortable posting.

DecemberFirst could have something to offer the board in the future, but will likely not post in fear of being scolded.

You know what i mean?

I agree with you, and by now have realized that if the poster were a legitimate user, an apology would be in order. Considering that DF is instead, however, a serial troll banned repeatedly by the moderators, my conscience isn't weighing too heavily in this case 😉

Oh looks like flong is gone again. Sure we'll see him in a few weeks. He sent me a few pms and he's actually a pretty smart kid...just likes giving people a hard time on here.
