Hi,

Please, I need some input on my chances (if any) of being accepted to a dental school.

My DAT scores are as follow:

AA 16
PA 17
QR 13
RC 17
Bio 17
GC 16
OC 17
TS 17

My overall GPA is 3.29 and my science GPA is 2.99

I applied late July.

Here are some more facts about me:

--English is my third language
--I'm not an American citizen (permanent resident).
--I have over 500 hours of community service
--Over 100 hours of research (published an abstract)
--Over 40 hours of shadowing dentists
--I will graduate through the Honors College with a B.S. in Biology
--Plus, I have served in officer positions in a couple of Academic Organizations.

Thank you for your attention,

leilei

Your sci gpa is low, and your dat scores are low, but your overall gpa is good. I would either take more sci classes to raise your sci gpa or re-take the dat again. Or if you really want do both!

Good Luck.

having gone through this cycle, i honestly don't think you would get much love this year.

i think the best thing for you to do is to bring that sci gpa to above 3 and do better than 13 and 16 on your DAT. i am not trying to discourage you, but honestly you would have a much better chance next year with your gpa over 3 and probably 18 and 19 will get you in.

if you check the stats page, you will get a better idea of what i am trying to say about this cycle's stats.

Have you heard from schools yet? Any interview invites or rejections?

It seems like this may be a tough year for acceptances based on what Ive seen in the pre-dental forum. Even schools who have a reputation of being more lenient, are raising their standards a bit (NYU). At least since you have applied, you really have nothing to lose at this point. If it doesnt work out for you, take the DAT again and try to get at least all 17's. Try and raise your Academic Average and your Total Science score to 18 or 19. You should be fine at that point.

Good luck for this cycle...I think we all need it.

Yes, as of now, I've had one interview and 3 rejections. I applied to 13 schools. I haven't heard from the other 10 schools.

Thank you for all of your prompt replies,

I think you have a chance at getting into some private schools. Those DATs are killer though, it shows schools that u may not be seious. Take it over if u can

I meant to write: I haven't heard from the other 9 schools.

Yes, I agree with you (and every other comment posted regarding my chances). Thank you.

I'm retaking the DAT end of December. I've been studying for it ever since I received those "killer scores."

Thanks,

leilei

If you increase your scores up to 18s and 19s, then yes, interview invites may come your way.

If you increase your scores up to 19s and 20s, then yes, interview invites will come your way.

If you increase your scores up to 20s all across the board, then yes, interview invites definitely will come your way.

Your overall science GPA is low"er", but not detrimental. It's your DAT scores, hun. Good luck studying and study hard! Get them 20s! The Perfect Vison Club (20/20) is now accepting applications.

One last thing:

For those 9 schools that you haven't heard from, MAKE SURE you email the admissions office and inform the proper personal (coordinators/directors) that you're retaking the DAT this month.

You DO NOT want them to make a negative decision on your application because they didn't know that you're retaking the DAT. Inform them to hold their decisions until they received your new DAT scores.

Got it?

Good.

Gotta get back to Pediatirc Dentistry Final studies! 😱
