Hi!

I'm applying in June 2016. There's a class I'm considering taking in Spring 2016 that would give me a minor. However, I'm worried I may get a B in it, and it's 5 units, so it would definitely affect my science GPA.

If I take the class, do I have the choice of whether or not to submit spring grades? In other words, if I got a B in the class, could I just submit my app without grades from that semester?

I'm not sure if this varies school to school or not. Thanks!

I assume you mean in Spring 2017. You will not have to submit the grade to AMCAS. You will have to submit your completed transcript to your school (if you're accepted), which reserves the right to withdraw acceptance at any time. Nobody is going to withdraw your acceptance for a B (or a C).

If you meant for Spring 2016, then you won't have a choice. You will submit transcripts to AMCAS, and they won't let you omit anything.

I meant spring 2016.

So since grades are posted around the second week of June, I would have to wait til then to apply?

The only valid answer to this is you call schools individually and ask them what they want. I'd imagine they'd ask you to send an updated transcript or an update with grades or something along those lines, there going to want all the academic information they can on you especially when your applying with only 5 semesters vs 6 of grades, but that's all guess work. No one here will give you a better answer than the school themselves.

Oh and no one class you get a B in will decide your fate for your chances at admission. Ever.

Thanks. I'll be a senior at the time, so I'll have 7 vs 8 semesters.

It won't affect my overall GPA, just my science GPA. It's 5 units, so it's fairly significant.

I suppose I'll just have to ask schools when the time comes

Schools will want spring grades. This class is a year away. Hit it from the ground running, knowing that you want to avoid a B, and get an A.

+1. Get an A, problem solved. Unless we're talking about p-chem, in which case pray for a B.

Yeahh, it's an upper div engineering class. I got an A- in pchem, but this looks harder.
It's not always something where you just decide to get an A and it happens.

So are you applying this cycle or taking a gap year and applying next?
