Hi all. I'm wondering what my chances of getting into a good post-bac program with good linkage options are. I graduated with a BS in computer science/engineering and a math minor from a well-respected private college in 2007. My cGPA was 3.48, and I had a 1390 on the SAT and 580/800 (verbal/math) on the GRE about 4-5 years ago. I took two physics courses and one chemistry course in college, getting a B, C+, and a B, respectively. Those grades were in my worst semesters at school, and I'd expect to significantly raise them if I retook those classes.

I've been working in IT for the past three and a half years, and I've been a part of a few large projects in some major hospitals, which may give me a unique perspective on the needs of doctors and other healthcare professionals. I don't have any relevant clinical volunteer work, but I'm planning on volunteering and possibly shadowing during this year.

Ideally, I'd like to get into a good 1-year formal post-bac program with good linkage possibilities. I've got a wife and an 11-month old, which is why I'd prefer schools with strong linkage possibilities (seems less risky to me). I'm looking at schools in the Philadelphia area, as well as Chicago. I'd love to get into either the Bryn Mawr or Penn programs next year, but my initial thought is that they may be too competitive for someone in my situation (at least Bryn Mawr). Can anyone offer any opinions/tips/thoughts on my situation? Are there any other programs I should consider? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

If you get some clinical experience through shadowing or volunteering (preferably both), then I think you'd have a decent shot at Bryn Mawr. Your GPA is a little lower than average, but not by much. Like you, I have a math background (BS-PhD) and it has served me well so far.

I did the program there in 2008-2009. If you have specific questions, PM me and I'm happy to help.

You should definitely apply anyway. If you don't, then the probability of not get accepted is asymptotically almost surely 1. 😉

Best of luck,
Gator
