I have a question and would appreciate if you guys give me some feedback.
I'm applying form Canada (Not a US citizen) and I will be taking my DAT for Oct 20th.
Does it even worth to fill out any application for this cycle or should I apply for the next cycle?
Honours cell & molecular biology (graduated may 08)
GPA: 3.71 science GPA: 3.83
MCAT: bio 10 phy 10 ver 5 writing M
DAT: to be taken OCT 20th
Schools I would like to apply: NYU, Boston, tufts, Howard, USC (though very expensive!!), buffalo, michigan, conniticut
I also would appreciate if anybody could post which schools tend to take Canadians.
I haven't sent my apps yet. I would like first to see my DAT score before sending my apps since I'm a bit worried about the RC section which is why my MCAT score is low when I took it last summer. This way, I would save money and can estimate my chances before sending the apps. Is it too late to send the apps by the end of October/early November.
What are the chances for the 2nd round of interviews after December 1st?

That is very late in the cycle and by the time your app is processed most schools will have completed their first round of interviews. You have a decent GPA but that is still almost too late. There is always a chance but if money is an issue you may want to wait till next year. Also I see you took the MCAT, so you might want to do some dental related extra curriculars because they will ask you during interviews about where your passion lies.

could you please post some dental extracurricular I can do to improve my application.

FINALLY!!!...a Canuck who uses the PROPER phrase "taking" the DAT as opposed to the canadian standby, "writing" the DAT. Good for you, man or woman, you have taken the necessary first step towards becoming an american dentist, eh?

In case you canadians havent realized, the DAT is multiple choice. One takes the exam and does not write the exam. Halelleujah, i've been waiting to say that for months now....😀

Dental Extracurricular? = Shadowing?

I hope you're not using Dentistry as a back-up to med school... Dental schools will know that you've taken the MCAT, and will not look at this positively.

Honestly, with a really high GPA and (presumably) a low DAT, you'd probably have a better shot at Canadian dental schools that stress GPA's. And realize that as an International applicant, you will be held to a higher standard than Americans, which means you need to totally destroy the DAT with a 20+, I'm guessing. I don't think this is unfair, they are American schools, and Canadian schools do the same thing, and you guys have pretty good schools already.

Otherwise, your list seems alright, though you might want to stick to just private schools, and also check which schools are looking for a high GPA. Make sure you rock the DAT though, because the DAT equivalent of an MCAT Verbal 5 is a 10 RC, and 10 RC is not gonna cut it, as an international student I'd think that you need at least a 17, if not higher.

Good luck though, with whatever you do.

Okay well nobody in this thread seems to be Canadian yet, so I'll respond. You have a very good GPA and I'm guessing you're taking the American DAT since cDATs are only offered in November and February. What I would do is submit your application now and get those LORs in. Your application should be in way before you even take the DAT. That way, the only thing you have to wait for is DAT scores to be send from ADEA. From what I've read, they mark your test right away? So you should get your scores in by November which is a bit late (I submitted my cDAT in Mid-December last year, got one interview).

Also, no harm in applying to a few Canadian Universities since your GPA seems to be within the average range... just make sure you kill the carving section if you're applying to any school West of UofT.

Again, your priority should be on absolutely destroying that DAT. Good luck and don't wait to submit your AADSAS app.

Oh yeah, dental extracurricular = shadowing for 100 hours or so (to be safe, I've read lists of required shadowing hours on this forum). Also, get a letter from a dentist proving the hours. Some other schools you should add are UOP, VCU, UPENN, Columbia. I'd drop Howard (unless you're a minority) and USC (personal preference against PBL... though it might be right for some). Both good schools though.
