Hi, All,
I got my BS in biology in 1996. I finished all courses including biology, biochem, genetics, microbio, molecular biol, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, math, physics etc. Then I switched to IT and have been working as consultant in supply chain. During the working peroid, I get MBA in supply chain.
I am considering to go to Dental school or medical school, because I hate to work in IT business. I like repairing people more than repairing systems. I wonder what is the chance for non-traditional student to Dental school?
By the way, I am 34 and this is the last chance in my life.

Thanks.

What kind of grades did you get in school? Have you done any shadowing/assisting at doctor or dental offices?

I have not yet taken DAT. My undergraduate GPA was 3.6. No experience in clinics but my wife is a family doctor and I should get chance to work in clinics if needed.

I say go for it! just search these forums and figure out how to dominate the DAT and get some good shadowing, volunteering, and experience in and you should be fine. good luck man

We have a bunch of people in our class over 30 and about 3 that are right around 36. It isn't that odd to be non-trad. With that GPA, you will likely have a shot at dental or medical only obviously for your future, dental school takes on average 2-3 years less training than medical schools so you won't be quite as old when you start to practice. Find what you like.

Then again, if you want to be an oral surgeon and can get into it, it is longer than med school and specializing afterward (6 yrs post dental school at many places.) But the other specialties are shorter and the residency for a GDP is only 1 year and not even mandatory in most states yet.

In your case you could be practicing general dentistry by the time you are 40...maybe even 39 depending on the month you were born 😉 That's young. I'd go for it whether you choose med or dent.
