Do I have some power over who I choose to credential with for insurance?

Lets say I join a group practice, do I have any say over which insurance companies I get credentialed with, or do they expect me to join any insurance plans that the other physicians are on?

Generally, you will have to take whatever the other docs take. Nobody's going to want to hire the doc that will only take BCBS.

In general you have to sign with whoever they tell you.

One of the hospitalist groups in my are has recently tried to seperate it out to different docs, one guy takes Aetna, one guy takes all the Medicare, etc. It's been really confusing and their phone service can't figure it out so I'm always talking to (waking up) the wrong guy. I hope they give it up soon.
