Hi guys,
I just got my Toefl iBT scores yesterday:

Reading:23 Listening:29 Speaking:23 Writing:24 Total:99

I graduated as a dentist in IRAN, and I've moved to the States 2 months ago. This is actually my first stay out of my country .. Anyways, after checking the Toefl iBT requirements for different Dental Schools, I found out that my scores won't meet the minimum for some universities ( For example Boston University's DMD program demands a minimum overall of 100. The minimum overall score for UCLA is 87, but my writing and speaking are both just 1 score short; the minimums for those items are 25 and 24 respectively).

I think I could've done better but I made the biggest mistake, which was taking some sample tests on paper instead of PC monitor ... my main problem with this iBT thing was not being used to staring to the cold-high-contrast monitor screen for 4 hours! So, do you think I should sit it again or just exclude those universities and go for the rest? ... I live in Boulder County,CO (30 miles from Denver) and UCSD (university of Colorado, school of dentistry) is my first chioce, and the minimum required for that is 95.

Thanks..

Hi, When did you give your TOEFL IBT. I gave it on November 20th and havent recieved my result yet. The ppl at ETS were saying that their servers are down and so my result might not be available till December 22. So if you could let me know when you gave ur ibt and when u recieved ur result, I would really appreciate that.

Thanks,

Mine was on Nov.17th, and they posted my scores online on Dec. 10th.
This is form Toefl iBT website:

TOEFL® iBT Test Scores Slightly Delayed
Because of the large volume of TOEFL iBT test takers in November, test scores for the November 19 and 20 test dates will be delayed approximately five business days for scoring to be completed.

Thank you for your patience.

I hope it helps.

Hey Thank you so much for the information.

You know I go that website atleast 15-20 times a day hoping to get my score. I guess I am so desparate now that I never looked at this announcement even once. Thanks once again. May just need to be patient.

Your first choice maybe UCSD. However, if I were you I would retake it and apply to more than just UCSD. It is best to apply to more schools and increse your chances of getting in.
Good Luck!

Hi there,
This is the reply to a similar private message I received the other day from another SDN member. I'm pasting it here for you. Good Luck on your exam.

"This whole TOEFL thing is just a pain in the neck! It's pretty tricky, you know, when I took it for the first time, I was really optimistic that I would get a great score. I studied the ETS book on introduction to Toefl iBT, the one with the CD, published by McGrawHill; just to get an idea about the format.
The result was not that exciting, as you can see. For the second time, I dont think that my English really improved, instead, I started practicing. I wrote an essay every day, and I started talking to myself ( loudly!) about different topics using the guidelines and topics in the same book. I concenterated mostly on speaking and writing. Since I had taken the exam once, on the test day I was way more relaxed than the first time. I didnt had any problem with time. This time the results were much better ( Reading: 28, listening: 28, speaking: 28, and writing:29, overall 113 ).

I'm sure you and many others already know enough to get a good score. The key to crack Toefl is to practice. Start today. Open the microsoft word, and set the timer (to get used to the timing) and start writing. The word counter which you can find in the tool bar on top of the page will help you to keep track of the words you've typed.
And start talking out loud. Of course with the time in mind. You're already way ahead this time, if you've taken it before.

No, it won't reappear. Read the official TOEFL website, there you can find answers to ALL your questions about the test.

Good luck.
