Hey all, i'm on the verge of buying a car but i'm not sure if i'll need one. I know UMich has an extensive bus system and the area is very safe. Do I need a car?

Depends where you live. The bus system is pretty good and if you have a fairly close apartment, you can definitely get away with not having a car.

Well... there are no grocery stores within walking distance of central campus so it could be worth it

Are u kidding, everything is in walking distance in Ann Arbor

you don't NEED one, but nice to have it. I lived on campus for 1 year and I didn't really like it. Housing is alot more expensive for what you get(old/small) and parking is usually additional $100-200 if you live in a big, company owned apartment.

Getting groceries without a car is kind of a pain in the ass. Major groceries like meijer, kroger, and costco are all off campus and would need a car.
