Do I need to have Kaplan prep course material in order to prepare well on DAT?

Can I just use KBB blue book, cliff note bio, DAT destroyer books, topscore tests, crack DAT PAT tests?

Absolutely, positively NO. Classes are typically good because they help in motivating you to study and they provide you good materials. However, the DAT prep available is by far better than what kaplan has to offer. Invest wisely, aka not in the course for the course materials. I personally never took a course or used course materials... Bottom line is that it is very possible to do well without classes as long as you find motivation to study consistently and use the appropriate (non-course) materials.

Nope its a waste of money to take the course. The test bank is nice but VERY over priced.

The things you listed are good enough, but if you want more practice get Achiever or DAT Decoder. If you want extra help with theory use Chad's videos for Chem, Schaum's for Bio.

RC and QR are all practice so Crack DAT reading or Godfrey's (RC) and Math destroyer for QR.

Good luck studying!

The Kaplan practice tests I felt were good. I didn't use Achiever or Top score but I hear good things about both.

Their classes are totally pointless (live and online), but I did find the review notes book as well as the online resources - workshops, quizzes, and practice tests to be very useful.

Also, the Topscore exams are a lot more similar to the real DAT than Kaplan tests ever were. I definitely recommend getting them.

I don't recommend taking the Kaplan class...complete waist of time. I went for the first couple of sessions and then realized that my time was better spent studying. Since I had already paid for the class, that came with the practice exam and etc...I used them.

I have no idea as to how well Topscore replicates the real DAT, as I did not use them. And Topscore probably does do a better job but I used the Kaplan practice tests bc I had already paid for them and wasn't going to pay extra for Topscore or Achiever.

The Kaplan practice tests are good for preparing you for the real DAT.

the Highest AA/TS that I made using Kaplan practice tests is 19/19

My real DAT 21/23... don't think you can say that they're not helpful datdental.

Although, Topscore may very well do a better job though.

*don't take the Kaplan in-class nor the online class versions.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/member.php?u=285779You didn't read my first post carefully. I did not say their practice exams were not helpful.

I just drop the Kaplan (in-class course) last week. I definitively agree with the other ppl who said is it a waste of money. Luckily i did not pay the full amount when i enrolled (I did the installment and only paid the first amount which was $497.00) after the third in class session i called to cancel. they said after third session of attending that your money was not refundable.

I was still able to get a refund of $97.00 (after bitc*hing at person on phone). it sucks that i did not get my full amount back, but when you enroll you get a pack of flash card, a big blue review book (1048 pgs), a lesson guide (390 pgs) that covers the different section of DAT.

in my opinion, it is an overprice review session

if you have $1400.00 just for someone to stand in front of a class and tell you to review your gen chem, o chem and bio etc.. then sure go ahead and pay for it

Yep, I've heard the same that it's over-rated too but what if we were to get used kaplan course books, is it worth it?
