I think taking the DAT 4 times is too much, but with a 14 in RC and 17 in PAT you have to retake it. I think you should spend about 3 months studying and then retake it. You need your scores to improve at least by 3-4 points in each section to really impress schools and have them overlook the fact that you took it 4 times. Good luck!

Don't you have to get permission to take it a 4th time? Seems like that is what I have read in the past.

The scores aren't bad TS =19 and AA = 19

Can still get in with a 17 Bio and 17 pat but I am not sure about a 14 reading?

Reading is important so if you do get the opportunity to retake. Work on a strategy that works for YOU. You will need to practice this strategy a LOT. Also, might want to consider taking a reading course that works on speed and understanding.

good luck👍

I heard somewhere that there are very few dental schools that take the best section scores if you took the DAT more than once. Is that true?

if this is true which school. any one know about which school look current and previous score

I was unaware that any school would do that, as much as it sucks though a 14 in reading won't fly. You do have to get approved to take the DAT more than 3 times. I thought that was going to be my situation. Thank God my scores turned out a bit better the 3rd time around

That 14 isn't going to fly. Retake if you want, but from what I understand...the vast majority of schools don't accept more than 3 attempts.

I personally would cut my losses and try the MCAT if I were in your position. Maybe you could consider med school (carribean MD or DO/Osteopathic). Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck.

PS Ironic username btw....

Schools will see all of your scores since they all appear on the score report. Because your RC score has been in this range for 3 consecutive exams, they won't give you any benefit of doubt. Needless to ask, but why didn't you put enough practice into your third exam to ensure you would make a guaranteed RC improvement? If you really want to enter dental you will definitely have to retake but I wouldn't just try to retake at the next possible date. I would seriously spend this next year reading, reading, reading to the point where you become a reading expert before taking the DAT again.

I heard that Roseman in Utah will take your best scores over different years.

This is completely ******ed for any schools to do this. I mean anyone can get 24+ across the board by just taking the DAT multiple times and just focusing on two subjects at a time. It would be something like:

Exam #1:
PAT 28
QR 30
Bio/GC/OC/RC all single digit scores from blindly guessing

Exam #2:
PAT 10
QR 10
Bio 26
RC 24
GC 8
OC 4

Exam #3:
PAT 8
QR 6
Bio 11
RC 9
GC 30
OC 24

Overall DAT:
PAT 28
Bio 26
GC 30
OC 24
RC 24
QR 30
TS ~26
AA 27

Harvard here I come!

Some take your best "DAT score" but they don't pick the "best sections" from each DAT taken.
Others look at the most recent score - so it is a risk to re-take. Call the individual schools to find out.

I beg to differ....I know ppl get in dental school after more than 3 attempts! i applied in 2007, didn't get in. Called up the schools last year and was told that they don't keep applicant's history for over a year. I mean, i don't encourage it, but i believe in whatever it takes to get u in WILL get u in. There's no such thing as rules...u can impress adcom, work hard in all aspects and still get in.

Double Bonded meant 3 DAT attempts and not 3 application cycle attempts.
