Do I really need to take Inorganic Chemistry lab with my class?

Hello all,

Quick background: I am currently attending a nearby university to improve my overall GPA. I already have a chemistry degree. My plan is to attend Loyola University (Chicago) for their SMP program otherwise I will go for a Masters Program nearby.

This semester I am taking Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry part 2, and Inorganic Chemistry lab. So, since I am just trying to improve my gpa and not really go for a degree, do you think Medical schools will really look to see if I took the lab with the course or not? Yea it is only 1 credit hour but I work two jobs and commute and hour to school 3 days a week and I am currently studying for my MCATs. If I apply for a masters program in chemistry they might look, but I have already taken labs for Quant,, Biochemistry, General, Organic and P-chem. Thank you!

Depends on what you mean by "inorganic chem".

Some people use that term to refer to general chemistry (the year long intro course that is a med school prereq). The word "inorganic" in this case means "the chem other than ochem".

As a chem degree holder, you're probably talking about upper div inorganic.

If you're talking about upper div science, then you're under no obligation to do labs. There's no med school requirement.

Look at some med school admissions web pages for specific requirements, which aren't standard.

As long as you have taken 1 year of general chemistry (often inorganic or basic physical) and 1 year of organic chemistry, both with lab elements, you are under no obligation to take a lab element with an upper level chemistry class.

Yes you are correct regarding which inorganic class it is. I was thinking maybe keeping the lab incase if I had to resort to a masters degree if I don't get accepted. But, talking to one of the advisors it seems like it wouldn't be too much of a factor if I skipped this lab. Thank you all for help. I guess I was somehow thinking it might strengthen my application some with this lab, but the risk does not outweigh the reward.
