Doing secondary applications now and came across this,

Have you ever been convicted, pled guilty, or pled "no contest" to a crime other than a minor traffic violation?

I got a marijuana infraction last winter (live in CA) and paid the fine. Do I have to report this since an infraction is technically not a crime? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_criminal_law#cite_note-3

An infraction is a public offense, but arguably not a crime, and is not punishable by imprisonment.

I don't think infractions show up on criminal records. Doesn't the Certiphi background check only screen for misdemeanors and felonies?

But other states may not see an infraction the same way California does. Should I report it anyway?

I would call the school in question to be doubly sure, but the question asks for crimes and it appears you did not commit a crime. Maybe check with a lawyer.

It's still a crime that isn't a traffic ticket. Yes you report it. Id rather not play loose with state crime terminology. It's still on your record, one way or another.
What happens when they run the background check at matriculation and see that on your record?

Honestly, I don't think infractions show up on criminal records. Doesn't the Certiphi background check only screen for misdemeanors and felonies?

Run a background check and see if it comes up.

I'd be willing to bet that it doesn't and I wouldn't report if so.
