Hey guys,

So I've read countless threads and haven't seen anyone with my awkward 'stats'. I'm an Economics major and I did not take any science pre-reqs until the beginning of my fourth year (I did five years in order to complete my pre-reqs). Anyways I have a pretty low overall GPA (3.0), however I have a 3.6 Science GPA. I also have shadowing hours, community service, along with other EC's.

I've also been taken practice exams for the DAT and I'm scoring close to or 20 in every section. Assuming I take the DAT and score 20 or more in every section, do I have a shot??? Will schools overlook my low overall GPA???

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks.

The low GPA will hurt you and keep you out of a lot of schools. Granted if you get a 22AA you have a shot at schools like Columbia, but this will all depend on your DAT score. There's no way to judge where you will have a shot at until you take the DAT.

I'm not very informed about cutoff GPA's so hopefully somebody else can answer that for you ( I actually think you make the cutoff). Regardless, your science GPA is really good (maybe you should've chose science over econ for a major haha) and assuming you do well on your DAT I think you will definitely get into some schools. Science GPA is a big factor in being admitted and yours is very good. You have dentistry experience and volunteer/community service so I honestly think you will be fine. If you can afford it I think it might help to apply to a wide variety of schools due to the discrepancy between your overall and science gpa's. You never know what can happen. Good luck

There are no GPA cutoffs, but there are average GPA scores for various schools. A 3.0 is below the GPA average at most if not all schools therefore the poster might struggle to gain admission at most schools.

Hard to judge without concrete dat scores. Science gpa is good but your regular gpa will definitely diminish your chances at most schools. Slim chances with 20 even.

Preferably a 22+ will increase your chances.

good luck
