hey guys, my stats arent really the best:
step 1 234
medical school grades: mediocre
2 ophtho letters, 1 very good internal med letter
2 ophtho case reports and 1 ophtho research project: pending
applied to every school possible and early
i think i made a good impression on my ophtho rotation

i havent heard from a single school yet....am i screwed? what r my chances of matching?
also, how many transitional year programs should i apply to?

thanks!!

I wouldn't worry just yet! It is still early. Many ophtho residents told me that most interviews come late. Plus, your stats are pretty ballpark for ophtho.

You'll get interviews, don't worry. It's still early. Your stats are okay and you did the smartest thing by applying to a lot of programs and doing so early.

Its still really early. If you look at the interview/rejections thread only about 10% of programs are sending out interviews yet. Most programs don't get serious until October.

Hey guys I'm starting to get pretty nervous. So far I've got one interview but I'm not particularly excited about the program. I thought I was fairly competitive but now I'm starting to doubt myself. My application was uploaded 8/29 which is a bit late but still within the deadline of all programs (thanks to my last LOR writer).
My stats are

Step 1: 243, 99
Decent mid tier allopathic state school
Grades in clerkships: Honors in med, surg, peds, psych. High pass fmed, ob/gyn. Honors in ophtho x 3 including away. Not AOA but literally just missed it according to dean (as if that makes me feel better)
Really solid LOR from well known faculty in ophtho. Dean said it was the best LOR he'd seen so far.
Research: Several non-ophtho pubs. 2 papers submitted to Retina and American Journal of Ophthalmology

Maybe I'm not as competitive as I think. Thoughts?

-All I gotta say is if you're not competitive I am screwed. I have around the same stats. Not as good research though. I am 1 for 7 on interviews out of schools I applied to so far. I am getting sort of nervous but have faith that once October rolls around things will pick up.

Yea I hope October will be better. I am 1/8 for programs that have started sending out interview invitations and applied to 54 total

yea I can totally look back now and think I was crazy for worrying. I ended up getting one interview very early and then just hit a dry spell for several weeks. This is a trying and often frustrating process, and I am very glad I do not have to do it again (at least until fellowship!)
