Ill try to keep this short

So i graduated from pitt in 2008 bs in biology. Gpa was about a 2.7 but 2.4 to PTCAS. Ive been doing genetic research at pitt since then. I applied to 4 pt schools last year and got rejected. I figured since i work at pitt i can retake some pre-reqs for free to boost my gpa.

However i just retook bio 1 and 2 and got a C in both. I plan on taking dev psyc, ab psyc this fall physics 2 and stats in the spring and chem 1 and 2 next summer then apply august 2012

I have 100 hours of outpatient and will have 100 of inpatient experience. My GRE was 1200 and AW 4. my overall gpa will always be low since PTCAS counts classes you retook.

I know that competition is fierce but will these C's and other low grades hold me back. I felt like thats what happened the first time and schools are gonna look at my abysmal gpa and just toss it in the trash

Any advice/thoughts? Thanks

Take some time to bring up your GPA in any way that you can. I had a sub-par PTCAS GPA and was rejected by schools I applied to through PTCAS, too. It may be more work getting recommendations and forms filled out, but try applying to schools that don't use PTCAS. In most cases, there are less applicants for these schools, and often they will only use your higher grades in the GPA calculations (unlike PTCAS). I think your GRE is great, so just try working on strengthening other areas of your application. Keep working hard and don't lose sight of your goals - all of it will pay off in the long run!! 👍

Fallingshort,

Before you think I have an elitist attitude, I just want you to that I'm kind of underdog in this application process too. Your GPA Definitely needs to get closer to that magic 3.0 mark and you already have a great GRE Score. My main concern is that you were a biology major and received a C in Bio 1 and 2 retakes. From what I've seen/heard, DPT programs are pretty rigorous with a heavy emphasis on the sciences. Not sure why your GPA is the way it is or why you struggled taking Bio1/2 over but are you prepared for the super fast pace of the DPT curriculum? Also, make sure that you ace any future pre-reqs/retakes that you have. You have over 120 credits and to even budge your overall GPA is going to take a lot of A's.

Apply to private schools, those with higher tuition, newly accredited programs, and those who don't use PTCAS.

Here are my stats and I am worried as well:
GPA: 3.18
Prereq: 3.1
GRE: 1270 AW: 4
Obs: 100 hours

Best of luck! I know we can make it!
