I am currently taking biochemistry (the graduate version, actually, BCH 401G) as an upper level bio elective this semester, and I was wondering if I still had to take the second organic lab as a medical school prerequisite.

I've taken Orgo 1, Orgo 1 Lab, and Orgo 2, but not Orgo 2 Lab. I heard that I won't have to with biochem, but I wasn't sure if this was true or not.

Does anyone know, or does it vary from school to school?

It varies. One of my state schools doesn't even require O-chem anymore, another requires a full year of it with labs.

I think it depends on the number of credit hours.

For example, most of the medical schools I applied to require 8 hours of ochem lecture and lab. At my undergrade univ ochem 1 and 2 are each 3 credit hours and then ochem lab (we just have one lab at my school) is 2 hours and that totals 8 hours so I'm good to go. But if your ochem lab 1 is just a 1 credit hour then you will probably need to take ochem 2 lab.
