When I came here six years ago asking what to do about my 2.7 ugrad GPA (degree in molecular biology), I received the great advice that I should find something else to do with my life. So that's what I did.
I gave up the idea of being a doctor and did medical research for a couple years before going back to ugrad for Comp. Sci. I took a year's worth of CS courses but then became more interested in Physics and ended up doing an accelerated Physics curriculum before going to Physics grad school. However, as I near the end of my second year in grad school I find myself drifting back toward the idea of medical school.
Whether or not I should actually leave my grad program and pursue medicine is a topic for another thread. Instead, my question for the forum is this: If I were to decide on medical school, would I need to do an SMP or is my informal (not really med school targeted) post-bacc performance good enough to make me an acceptable candidate?
I don't know if it matters, but my undergrad was Princeton and my undergrad GPA can be (at least partially) explained by to the onset of an autoimmune disease that took years to be properly treated. I even had to take a medical leave of absence because of it. My condition has been well managed since my senior year of college.
My stats:
UGrad GPA - 2.7 @ 157 credits
Post-Bacc - 3.9 @ 61 credits (24 credits CS, 37 credits physics/chemistry/math)
Grad GPA - 4.0 (I know this one doesn't matter to adcoms)
Cumulative UGrad GPA - 3.06 @ 218 credits
No MCAT score yet, but if past is prologue, my score should be pretty competitive.
Thank you in advance for any input you have.
