I graduated with a biology degree this past May with a 3.7 gpa and just took the DAT this Monday and made an AA of 20! However I cannot decide if I should work as a dental assistant during my gap year or do a one year pre-dental graduate program? Which do y’all think would make me a stronger applicant? Thanks!!!!

I also just graduated and decided to work (non-dental related). Schools like to see that you stay busy and make some sort of contribution somewhere. You'll also be able to save some money which is always nice. Your gpa and DAT are good so I wouldnt waste money on a grad program.

Of your two choices, work as a dental assistant or one year pre-dental graduate program, I'd say to work as a dental assistant. You have a strong GPA and your GPA is good so going back to school for a year seems like a waste of money.

With a 3.7 going back to school would be insane. Those programs are for people who need better stats. This is an absolutely no brainer, 0 reason at all of any kind to go back to school. Don't let SDN convince you that everyone in dental school has a 4.2.

Thanks yall! I also believe I shouldn’t go back to school but I keep getting discouraged by the people around me telling me that I need to do a better job of being a competitive applicant and that I HAVE to do the grad program to strengthen my application! I don’t think so I want a job and the ability to travel and explore before starting dental school!
