DO in Canada?

Wikipedia has decent info on practice rights in Canada. Looks pretty good except for Saskatchewan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteopathic_medicine#International_practice_rights
I can't help you with residency. I suggest you look for DO's in one or more Canadian locales where you might want to live.

My wife was accepted into DO school, but wants to practice in Canada when done, we both have duel citizenship. I'm just curious if this is even possible? Would you have to match in Canada? Thanks for your help.
Equal practice rights to U.S.-trained MDs in all but one province. Not sure about the match for MDs or DOs, but it will be the same process either way.
I think there's like 2 DOs in all of Ontario, and I would speculate that it means 2 DOs in all of Canada, given how ON is the most lenient one towards them.Wikipedia has decent info on practice rights in Canada. If your wife is willing to match here and return to canada after residency I don't see the problem. I know a guy that is an R-3 in psychiatry up in ontario, he said that he hasn't seen any DOs in residencies for the most part, but he knows a few attendings that are DO.
Good Luck with your plans though. I am sure it can be done.
Generally speaking, for the most part...no problem returning to Canada as long as you do either an ACGME residency or dual accredited AOA/ACGME residency.
Contact the president of the Canadian Osteopathic association, Dr. Findlay. He would know about the most current state of affairs for DOs in Canada and could possibly direct you to some DOs working close to wherever you live.

It is possible that the number of DOs will soon increase in Canada. The dean of MSUCOM has mentioned on several accounts that he was working with some people from Windsor, Ontario to open a DO school there. It is only in the preliminary stages, but keep an eye out for future news...

That's cool news...that's where I'm from. Too bad it hasn't already opened there now for me to attend.
Does anyone know where I can find out info re: if any OMM residencies are both AOA/ACGME accredited??
Thanks!!
I'm going to assume that any strictly-OMM residencies will only be AOA accredited.

Yeah, I had a feeling that they would be! So does that mean that if you do a strictly OMM residency, there's not really a chance to come back to Canada? That's a shame 🙁
Maybe they'll need to change this if there's gonna be a future DO school in Ontario

Are there any FP - OMM residencies that are accredited by both?? Go check out http://opportunities.osteopathic.org .... you should be able to find out more there.
