I am a third year medical student interested in internal medicine and either doing a subspecialty or being a hospitalist. I realize that the allopathic institutions, especially university hospitals, are much more respected training programs than the osteopathic programs. However, I am uncertain which allopathic programs are 'DO friendly' and will accept COMLEX scores. Also, how difficult is it to get a spot in a reasonable IM MD program while being a slightly above average DO student? Can anyone out there help me? Also I am interested in which osteopathic internal medicine programs are well respected. I know that there are some good programs in Michigan (Botsford, POH, and a few others), but what about the programs in Florida and Texas? Does anyone know anything about Suncoast hospital in Tampa or the hospitals in Fort Worth, Tx? Thanks. +pissed+

If you are an average DO student, you should have no trouble finding an MD IM residency. I know some DO students who got into some real good IM programs as well. IM isn't too tough to get. Do an elective audition rotation and get some good LORs and you should be able to get anywhere.

I did my core rotations at Suncoast. I advise you to stay away.
