Does anyone know if DO's struggle to find work with so many MD's out there? What are the cheapest DO schools? And what parts of the country do the majority of DO's practice? Thanks for your help.

DOs have the same job opportunities. From what i understand, the only area where DOs may have a harder (not hard, just harder) time is if they have done an AOA approved anesthesiology residency as opposed to an ACGME one. Other than that, nobody views a DO surgeon as anything different from an MD one. Or a DO internist as anything different from MD.

DO = MD + OMM

1. Perhaps if you're a pathologist or an idiot.
2. LECOM and TCOM, unless you're in-state somewhere.
3. Midwest, traditionally, but this has more to do with the geographical distribution of schools.

D.O.'s mainly practice in caves using beet roots and crystals with an occasional use of a Ouija Board...that is of course after they abolished the use of placing pins into Black Magic dolls

No but seriously, before you're torn a new one by others on the forum, DO=MD
same residency, same board examinations...D.O's do everything that M.D.'s do. I'm shadowing a very well known Vascular Surgeon who, during residency and fellowship, used to work with med students from some Ivy League allopathic schools...

I wish this site had a search function ...

Remember that one time when the search function didn't work? Those were good times. :laugh:

It's so shotty. People search all the time, but never seem to find the "can a DO be a surgeon" results.

The "read this first" sticky at the top of the page just doesn't seem to attract interest. It covers all of the questions that show up... all the time...

I know. They need to put it in sparkly font or next to a chick in a bikini or something ... :meanie:

This is a big NO! I work with a DO ophthalmologist, and he runs around like crazy! Between the OR and office he doesn't have any spare time. He is very very very busy and judging by his new car and house. I'd guess he does pretty well.

They should use the picture AND give it a suggestive title like "Be gentle, it's my first time."
I don't know how they'd get the gals to read it though...

They could make a separate identical thread for us girls that's titled something like "When to time pregnancy" That'd probably work!
