I've got a chance to be an officer for the pre-soma club at my school, but I'm planning on applying to both with the preference being allopathic. Now the pre allopathic club has everyone and their mothers in it so it will be a less chance of me getting into that. So what do you say? Will allopathic med schools care if its pre soma leadership?

I think it could help. Go for it and be a leader of the pre-soma club!!

I think it would be a good experience, but I do think adcoms at MD schools would notice. You would have to have a good answer for "why MD?" since I imagine they'll likely ask you. I would ask.

Just curious, how far are you in the process? I'm confused as to why you're counting yourself out of MD since I assume you're not applying yet.

I'm a sophomore right now. Not counting myself out of MD, but if I don't get in I will definitely go DO if accepted. I guess to answer "why MD" would be that maybe I feel like a DO could possibly hinder my chances at more competitive residencies? That is not necessarily the case though because there are plenty of DO's in my area doing derm and other more competitive residencies. I guess in the end I want to go to medical school and become a practicing physician.

Both are equal in terms of "leadership" experience. However being an officer in a pre-med club of some sorts is really pretty standard.

When you include this on your AMCAS you should be prepared to explain your involvement etc to your interviewers. This opens the door for a possible "Why MD" question.
