I've been shadowing a DO family physician for almost 6 months now. We have a great relationship since I'm a nontraditional student so we have a lot of non-healthcare things to talk about. He treat me like a medical student and teach me a whole lot about the medicine and administrative side. However, when it come to writing letter of recommendation he seem to lag it like no other. He offered to write me a letter before I even asked and told me to give him 3 months (while following up with him every few weeks to remind him). The deadline I request for the letter is coming up in a few days and still haven't receive anything yet. His clinic isn't too busy and every time I text/call to remind him he said he will get on it at the end of the day or weekend. What are your thoughts on my situation? should I try to find another physician to shadow and hope to get the letter from them? I'm afraid if I continue to bother this doctor he might write me a bad letter then I'm done for lol.

I literally received one of my letters 3 or 4 hours before it was due. I would send him another text that reminds him of the due date then do the same thing 2 days before its due. You could find another physician but chances are they won't be willing to write you one if its already crunch time. He won't write you a bad letter though. Letters represent you AND the author. If someone doesn't feel like they can write you a good letter, they'll simply decline when you ask

probably won't write you a bad letter. he's just procrastinating. Just make sure he has a signature and letter head. I had to provide a word document with the letter head and signature to my evaluator because he did not know how to do it lol.
