I would like some general advice on where I stand with the application process given my situation. I have been waiting on a DO letter to be complete with every DO school I have applied to (except MSUCOM as they do not require one). I should most certainly have it by early September. I have currently received secondary invitations from the 11 DO schools that I have applied to, but remain incomplete at almost all of them due to the letter. However, I have submitted all of my secondary applications and all additional application information; the letter is the very last thing that is preventing completion. Will I be at a disadvantaged by becoming "complete" in late August/early September despite having submitted all the secondaries I have received in July?

Trust me, I have exhausted all efforts to try and courteously suggest if I could receive the letter earlier, but the physician who is writing it for me is a great family physician whom I do not want to be rude to. So, unfortunately, asking for it sooner will not work. He has promised it will be in by early September.

I have also applied to MD schools, but I am complete at all of them as they do not require a physician letter and I have 4 other letters to meet any requirements.

Stats:
cGPA - 3.55 sGPA - 3.65 (AACOMAS 3.81)
MCAT: 29 - 12/7/10

Cheers!

A physician letter, yes (except MSUCOM). DO is optional, but one of the physicians I shadowed the most was a DO so it just worked out that my physician letter is from a DO. All the other physicians I have shadowed were also too busy to write me a letter 🙁.

I had the same problem, but it backed me up all the way to February. If you have to wait a month, you won't be late. Hope that helps!

Do you feel that it hindered your acceptance significantly? Encouraging words always help 🙂

Well, since I applied in February, which is really late, I only applied to 4 schools in order to save money. I still got an ii and acceptance with 1 out of those 4 schools. One I never heard back from, one I was waitlisted, and the other I was outright rejected. It's hard to tell since I didn't apply broadly.

I wouldn't consider myself to have awesome stats by any means. However, I think I wrote really good essays for my secondaries which helped a lot.

Thanks for the feedback! It would be great if any others who have had similar situations could chime in for me!

I don't think it will be an issue. Maybe wait for the always appreciated opinion of @Goro

If you could give you thoughts on my situation @Goro I would greatly appreciate it 🙂. Forgive my neuroticism.

You've done all you can...in this case, patience is a virtue, and you won't be penalized even if the LOR arrives in Oct.

Anyone get into DO school without a DO letter? I've worked under a ton of MDs and have a letter from one of them, and have done so much shadowing at this point that I don't know what the point is any more. I need to work and actually make money! haha and I work directly with clients and see a DO as my PCP ... please tell me it's possible to get in without a letter from a DO (except for the schools where it's a solid requirement).
