Hello fellow SDNers,

I have a question for the majority population. Is it possible to apply to DO school without an DO Letter? As I am very interested in the practice of OMM and the ideology of DO physicians.

Thank you

Let the SDN rage commence.

Most schools, yes. Many require a DO letter. Look a the the individual school's admissions requirements.

Yes, see the FAQ.

Also make notice that not having shadowed a DO will do you no favors and make plenty of ADCOMs doubt your interest in DO.

I have a DO letter but I don't really think the physician really talked about OMM. She just wrote a normal letter talking about our experiences and what she thinks about me. Is that okay?

Nope, that's bad. You needed a DO Lor with at least 5 prayers of At Still....

Its fine, OMM or not, this is something you can express on your secondaries....in how you were able to discuss elements of OMM and how its a viable option for a certain patient. Im getting mine from a Urologist (DO), and he's told me he doesnt practice OMM much anymore, if anything he will recommend kegal exercises for urinary incontinence....but thats about it...

I have DO shadowing experience, but no letter. (DO I shadowed last summer said she would write one, but since attempting to get in touch with her in April she has yet to reply . Would this hurt me at all in the application process? Would adcoms ask me why she didn't writer a letter?

I was not able to shadow a DO, but I was able to have a 1 hour long interview a DO in his office to learn more about osteopathic medicine. He also wrote me a letter of recommendation for this application cycle. Will this be satisfactory for DO schools?

Do you have a DO letter? Some schools are okay without it, but some require it (like LECOM).

Since everyone else is derailing this train, I might as well loot it while I can.

I have a DO letter, but it is very bad. The FM I shadowed has been practicing forever and he basically wrote 3 sentences about me. The whole letter is less than a paragraph. I have an MD letter that is much better, should I just roll with the MD letter and send in the DO one if I have to?

I have a question that I might as well ask here.

When applying to DO schools, should we include shadowing experience from MD physicians as well?

I had the same problem. He said "Yankees527 shadowed me in my office. I found him to have the capacity to be an excellent physician"
The end. Then he ended up bailing on letting me shadow him.m
So I went out and found another one, one who does OMM and is writing a letter! I say keep looking

Haha i was still able to shadow, but i think he just wasn't up to date with LOR guidelines. I could get another letter from a DO, but Idk if I'll have it in time.

It should really be considered +10000000 when you have do shadowing because there are SO MUCH less of them. Should show kudos for 1. actually finding a do
2. Finding one willing to let you shadow
