DO LOR for MD school?

I have only shadowed a DO that I have known for a long time and I have a good feeling he will be able to write me a strong LOR. However, how favorable or unfavorable will adcoms at MD schools look at this? I do continue to shadow in the near future, but this is just a question to keep in mind.

Physician letters are not required or expected for MD applications (with rare exceptions).
They are the "fluff" of LOR's.
DO schools see this differently, I'm told.

I really hope that are fluff . Although, I can see myself finding a physician to shadow in the hospital where I work, most likely I will not feel comfortable asking him or her for an LOR.

If it's just a generic "premed SirCardiac shadowed me for a day and he seemed nice" I wouldn't include it on your AMCAS application.

But to answer your question, as long as the letter doesn't explicitly go on and on about your suitability for the osteopathic profession, it shouldn't really make a difference if it's signed by a DO vs MD.
