Lacking one won't hurt.Hi all, I’ve heard both sides so I figured I’d ask. Is it necessary to have a DO letter? I will have 1-2 very good MD letters so I’m wondering if it’s necessary to get a DO letter. ~3.65 GPA, no MCAT yet, good EC’s. Texas resident, white male
Having one always helps
Note: there are schools that require a DO LOR.
I attend TCOM and have never shadowed, nor did I have a letter from, a DO.
It did not appear to impact my application at all; I received an interview immediately (same day) following receipt of my committee letter.

This OP, and if you go to the AACOM website you’ll be able to look up which schools require a DO letter.

Only really applied in Texas and matched to TCOM.
Interviewed at UTSW, McGovern, and UTMB as well.
