I never understood why people fall in love with PCOM. It is a great school, but I don't feel it is any different from the other great DO schools.

Very true. Couldn't have said it better myself. All of the match lists have some impressive places. I will be posting CCOM's when it gets finalized.

I think it's overhyped since most of the SDNers that help the pre-meds are from PCOM (ie: JPH, Maximus, DO_Sigma, medhack, JonnyG). They keep emphasizing that the oldest school is the best because of the long standing reputation. But, in my opinion, the school is only a gateway while the student is the key to the lock (residency). The question is can YOU unlock into John Hopkins and Mayo? The school won't do it for you.

In addition, I think NYCOM might have a better match result. A couple of students (from the 2010 thread) have pointed out the following:

There's also Ortho at UMDNJ-SOM, EM/IM Barnabas, EM/FP CCOM and Frankford, another neurosurg in Ohio, Gen Sx at Barnabas. EM at Doctors, EM at St. Lukes' Bethlehem. I have the osteo list, awaiting the allo list. So far from Allo, I know there was a St. Luke's roosevelt EM, Maimonides EM...etc.

Do the majority of DO's go for DO residencies?

I thought the majority landed in MD residencies these days..

It depends on the school. You'll find that schools which have a small number of osteopathic residencies (i.e. TCOM) will have more in the allopathic match, whereas those which have more residencies (i.e. MSU-COM) will have more in the osteopathic match.

My school, OSU-COM, was about 50/50.
 
Like what was mentioned previously, matching into a great program coming from an osteopathic school is more dependent on the student's application, as opposed to the osteopathic school they come from.

Traditionally, NYCOM's graduates are 50/50 regarding osteo vs allo residencies. In addition to the list already posted regarding NYCOM's match list, here are some more allopathic match results that I know of (based on who showed up at the Match Party):

Very nice match list, NYCOM (even though its incomplete). 👍 It could be my fav match list that I have seen so far, but then again, I might be going there next year so I am biased 😀. I would have to assume that Montefiore Derm is allopathic since Montefiore is affiliated with Albert Einstein

Edit: I especially like the Rad at Yale and Temple :clap: Congrats!
 
Yeah, it's allopathic. Monte is the university hospital of AECOM.

St Barnabas Medical Center in NJ (as opposed to St Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx) is an allopathic institution who's major affiliation is Mt Sinai but who is also part of NYCOM's OPTI. Most of their programs are allopathic - the osteopathic ones are ENT and Neurosurgery.
