Ok...so the scores are out! If your plans are to go osteopathic, how'd you do? Feel free to add other important stuff like GPA, extracurriculars etc. to give the rest of us an idea as to how our peers scored.

I got a 24P...it's not what I was hoping for, but I guess it'll be ok. I hope my 5 years of clinical experience and extracurriculars will offset the less than stellar MCAT

I'm 26 years old.
I'm really nervous...I'm worried that I won't get an interview with my stats.
My top three schools are University of New England, Kirksville, and Midwestern.

i have a 3.71 grad gpa, 3.3 ug gpa, and 32 mcat and no love (not even an interview) from UNE. I was kinda bummed. i wonder how much they take into consideration if an applicant is from the east coast (i'm midwest).

Don't freak out too much. Write a good PS and get your materials in early! They actually read the personal statement at PCOM, unlike everywhere else I interviewed. I got a 29Q, but I had a 3.5 GPA. Chin up!

i have a 3.71 grad gpa, 3.3 ug gpa, and 32 mcat and no love (not even an interview) from UNE. I was kinda bummed. i wonder how much they take into consideration if an applicant is from the east coast (i'm midwest).

There is a preference for New Englanders, 70% I believe and another good chunk for NY and NJ which are not New England states. With those stats, maybe they were figuring that you would matriculate to an MD school.

I think you should add LECOM, if you can see yourself in Erie, PA. Send in your scores, otherwise it doesn't matter how early you apply, they don't look at it until it's got scores attached to it. You can put that you are retaking it if you want...

Someone said it for me. You will find a wide array of opinions on here and, many of them, sad to say, have their own agenda. That is, some people may just decide to tell you the wrong advice just to keep some competition out. Not being ADCOMs, the best that we can do is give our own advice, which, may not be correct. Anyways, here is my hopefully unbiased advice:

Apply broadly (only to the schools that you can honestly see yourself attending for four years (no more we hate this school because we went there for four years and no one made us blah blah blah, suck it up or I will be there to tear you a new one )). Apply early, it helps a lot. If you have a low MCAT/GPA get ready for the why question; no the answer is not that your school sucks or the MCATs are pointless ways to make us sit in a room for 8+ hours. Finally, nail the interview; this is your chance to sell yourself, smash it out of the ballpark (find five or six things about yourself that you MUST get out, write them down, and direct all questions asked to those points). For example, the why D.O. question can be directed to your experience in such a such a place that made you appreciate the Osteopathic approach to medicine. Anyways, have fun, be safe, enjoy traveling, spending money and eating fast food during interview time!!

NYCOM, PCOM and NOVA have an instate preference...even if they don't claim to have one. If you think you can increase your scores by three points or more, do so. That will work in your advantage. Otherwise, it may not be significant enough to warrant the later complete application.

wow....what school did you decide on and why? CONGRATS!

Dangit. I grew up in NE and lived there most of my life till a few years ago.
I'm a AZ resident now. oh well...plenty of other great schools out there.

I think it had to do with residency. UNE has 70% of its applicants from New England and then a good percentage from NY and NJ which aren't considered New England states. I believe they said they give a slight preference to those within the New England area. You had good numbers and activities coming in. Were you considering UNE as one of your top choices?

I'm in Colorado and got accepted to UNE. My GPA rather sucked nasty wet monkey patties (around a 3.0 aacomas) due to rank stupidity 20 years ago when I was younger. My recent grades were pretty good (3.5-3.6 with an overload of really hardcore science classes). My MCAT was merely a 29. Lest you think my acceptance was a fluke, three years ago another girl from my area got into UNE.

UNE does read applications very carefully. They were the only ones that commented on several parts of my app - including my rather unusual name. They are very observant in a very friendly kind of way: the interviewer was the only one who noticed my hands (which are "double-jointed" as part of my systemic hyperextension mobility syndrome). He asked specific questions about my past that no one else asked. He asked about my family life. They were direct and to the point; so am I so I liked that a LOT.

From my observances, UNE likes to see hands-on experience. They seem to appreciate my 15 years of EMS experience.

Just 'cuz you're not from New England doesn't mean you don't have a shot at UNE.

I have similar score and applied very late. I submit my AMACS at the end of october, and submit my ACOMAS at the end of november. I got accepted into two DO program, WVSOM and NYCOM, and wait listed to CCOM. I think submit your application as early as possible will maximize your chance. Do well on your interview is also important, especially for DO schools. Good Luck!

i agree with this 110%. i was offered an interview at UNECOM (that i declined) and i'm from california. the school is good, the area is beautiful so it's not surprising (at least to me) that they had an increase in applicants.

Hey, I got interviews at three schools and accepted at two (third interview they didn't actually notify until after the interview date). I only had a 23 MCAT myself. Just apply EARLY and have good essays and LOR's (and EC's if not too late).
