As you all know in high school graduations the valedictorian gives a speech. I was wondering if medical and dental schools have any such similar traditions in their graduation ceremonies?

My school had one... kind-of. There was an awards ceremony a couple days prior to graduation and several students got individual named awards. One of them was (if you parsed down the description) basically highest achieving student with the best grades. It was named after someone or other.

Doesn't really matter though, since those awards were determined well after we applied for residency.

My school did not. I think maybe the class president gave a speech, but I could be wrong; it may have been just med school VIPs and other invited speakers.

Years later, all I remember about med school graduation is 1. getting "hooded" 2. officials spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to get all 150 class members in frame for the official class photo 3. people obnoxiously referring to each other as "Dr." the rest of the day and 4. the graduation party, which was actually a very nice, well-funded event.

My alma mater gives a monetary award to the "top student in the medical school class" at an awards ceremony a few days before graduation. No recognition at graduation/speech/etc.

No, but we have superlatives like back in hs.

Most likely to succeed goes to the student with the highest step score, as it should. I'm in the running for most likely Soap.

You're deciding which schools to apply to based on whether they have a valedictorian or not?

What school is that? I'm trying to make a list of all the schools I want to apply to. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to SDN 🙂

1) you should change your profile picture to protect your anonymity

2) please don't create a school list based on whether or not they have valedictorians

3) once you've created a tentative school list, post it in the "what are my chances" subforum so we can help make sure it's not terrible
