I'm just wondering how everyone studies ? Study schedule ? Study buddy? or whatever you plan for that specific day ?

I'm a non-traditional student and have at home responsibilities. Everyday I go over material but don't have a specific study schedule. would you recommend to study on a schedule or by topic ?

I took my DAT when I was still in school. What I did was I used my winter break (3 weeks) to watch all my chad videos and took notes. When school started, I familiarize myself with the PAT whenever I had a break. Then I would review my biology knowledge. Then when school got crazy, I would set aside my off days (weekend and wednesday for me) to do practice DAT destroyer whenever possible. I didn't follow any particular methodology, I just kept track of the problems I did and just made progression. Same for the PAT, I just did it whenever possible. Then I had a week to do my practice exams after my finals. I didn't feel ready, but I just took my DAT anyways. Oh, and I spent like two days reviewing my math and RC

I took my DAT April 12. I planned this last semester when making my schedule. I still took 15 credit hours, but the classes weren't crazy demanding. When I started to review over winter break, I had a schedule in mind but nothing strict. Once I got through all the review material (chads, cliffs bio, etc) I dove into Destroyer, Bootcamp and CDP. I tried to do at least 30 bio, GC, and OC questions every day or two, and one timed QR and PAT exam a week. My main goal was just to keep working through problems whenever I had free time in between classes. I focused on getting through all the practice tests and questions instead of sticking to a strict calendar schedule. Figure out how you learn best, and plan according to your study habits.

I think a schedule is good for some people. I use sort of a schedule; more of like a roadmap of what I wanna get done. I make the mistake though of making a to do list and writing too many things down that I could not get done. Then at the end of the day I feel like crap. So lately I have been making more reasonable lists.
But yeah don't just study one thing and neglect the other

study buddy is a huge no for me. Need to go at your own pace. As far as schedule, i never actually created a formal one with like what i plan on doing every day of the week/month but had a general idea of what goals i wanted to accomplish for like a 3 day period. (like this 3-5 day period, i wanna do 100 destroyer questions in OC and Gchem and get through 3 chapters in Cliffs).

People use any study schedule that suits them. Many people make up their own to fit them best.

The key is to actually follow your study schedule.
This is probably the best piece of advice, aside from using a study schedule. Print out a calendar from today until your DAT test date. Then take all of the material you still have left to cover, including you content review and practice tests, and divide them evenly between all of those days. Be sure to give yourself a break at least once a week (or it can also be used as a catchup day, if something else happens during the week).

Now, the important part is you have to be realistic with yourself. When I first made my study schedule, I set myself up to study for 8 hours a day with all the stuff I crammed into it. I couldn't handle it, and I started not following it. If you find yourself struggling to keep up, don't be afraid to postpone your DAT to give yourself more time, and to spread out your study schedule. Postponing my exam was the best decision I made.

I'm not-traditional as well. I work 40hrs, plus I'm taking two science courses in which I have to commute 30 minutes each way, and I'm married. I'm following Ari's bootcamp study plan since I needed something already laid out to work on. This had made things a lot easier. It works out because I'm taking biology right now as I am preparing so I don't really need to relearn a lot of it. You really have to do what works for you.

I didn't really have a schedule. I just studied as much as I could stomach for the day, and then I moved on to better things. 🙂 I did a mixture of studying different topics each day. Sometimes I'd spend an extra long time on bio if I felt like it, etc. I'd always do at least 2-3 subjects a day.

I DEFINITELY did not use a study buddy. *yikes* That just doesn't work for me.

Yeah study buddy is a no for me as well. When I used one a couple times and we were working on the destroyer together she would constantly look at then answers before even attempting the problems and then she told me I was going to fast for her.

A study budy only works for me if they want to work and not just chit chat. Otherwise, you'll just waist 2 hours. Make sure you work with someone you know has good work ethic.

Think of it as preparing to ask out a girl you really like. You wouldn't want to look your worst for the possibly one chance for her to go out with you, would u? Get back in the gym(studying), buy your supplements ( DAT study materials), and get yourself in the best mental and physical shape of your life (DAT domination phase).
