Do most optometrists end up in retail?

I want to study medicine or optometry but I’ve read posts about how optometrists say they hate their jobs and end up in retail to sell glasses with typical retail salary. Is this still true? If so I’ll just focus on getting into medicine.

Also I think most of the information I read on those posts might be based on just the US and the UK but what about other countries?
