I've heard that NYU students live in a "bubble" because of the dorms and compact campus + hospital setting. Do you guys actually feel this way? Are there any issues with the dorms?

How do you like the school, overall? Were you satisfied with your choice to attend NYU or do you sometimes wish you'd chosen a different school?

you might get more responses to this question in the NYU class of 2014 thread. Usually some current med students drop by and offer advice and answer questions.

I don't go to NYU but I go to a different NY school with dorms (haha not too hard to figure out). It's hard to feel like you are in a bubble in NYC. All of Manhattan is a hop, skip, and a jump away. You won't really have the time to explore as much as you'd like but I wouldn't say I feel like I live in a bubble because the campus is integrated with the city. I went to a suburban undegrad and that felt like a bubble.

i couldn't disagree more with this statement! i went to undergrad in NYC and probably will be here for med school as well. i definitely felt like i was in a bubble as an undergrad even though "all of manhattan" was a "hop skip, and a jump away." and i expect to feel like i'm in one as a med student as well. it's bound to happen at any school anywhere, IMO, because you're so narrowly focused and you're seeing the same people and buildings every day. JMO.

Then again, what's wrong with being in a bubble? As long as it is a nice bubble.... 😀

I am a first year at NYU and I LOVEEEE it. I think the location of the school is the BEST out of all the NYC schools and I feel like I have all of the city at my fingertips.

however, i live off campus, ~10 minute walk from school and more south, so I feel closer to the union square area than students living on campus.

no way, sinai's location is better
uptown FTW 😛

I like Sinai's location a lot better but if you live in Union Square, then I guess that would be better. You also would be paying a lot more than living in the dorms.

new york city is a big bubble for everyone. its a giant city but its really really really independent. there's a lot of good in that too

but I'm sure the quality of living would be slightly better too. I do understand the dorms are just ridiculously inexpensive for Manhattan though, particularly that part of the city.

haha...that must be somewhat maddening, given the nature of new york winters. I don't mind the cold personally...I just kind of prefer my own bathroom...

sinai has amazing dorms. i just spent 4 years in uptown NYC for undergrad and really wanted to go downtown.... uptown offers less IMHO in terms of being able to walk to fun destinations. i find myself walking everywhere from herald square to houston st from where I live.

I absolutely agree, I loved walking all over at 2 or 3 AM during undergrad - you won't get much of that uptown BUT I think we are spoiled 😳

central park is a huge plus

meh, i also spent 4 years uptown at school (with you, i presume 😉) and i wouldn't really want to move downtown. i still live on the UWS and i love my walking destinations as well. to each her own, i suppose 🙂

i would love to be in a bubble with ar2388 and dw2158

What made you choose NYU over Tufts? Are you happy with your decision? I am also trying to decide which school I like better.
