I've been very worried about this but I am applying for fall 2013 cycle at age 19.
I only applied to USC because of it and figured just wait one more year. I'm just waiting for USC to give me an interview (Meh). If I don't get in this cycle I will try again for fall 2014 cycle and apply to all CA schools. Through networking/connections, I was pre-selected at a partially accredited school in California.

I also graduated from a pharm tech school with 330 hours of inpatient hospital pharmacy internship. I did 1.5 year genetics research at my university. I have been involved in many clubs but I have no solid volunteering experience(my main concern). I've been volunteering ever since so that I can add for the next app cycle.

My LoRs came from my Pharm tech instructor and research advisor.

My personal statement followed the prompt. I talked about how I was eager and motivated to learn about pharmacy by enrolling in a pharm tech program while at school, manage academic research with my studies, my internship at the hospital pharmacy, and my very young age. I talked about doing an infectious disease residency, get into clinical research and teaching. =__= That's about it.

PS: I already have a bachelor in microbiology and been applying for lab tech or pharm tech jobs. I received a lot of invitations for interviews but didn't get any call back :(

PSS: What are my chances?!! I know it's lame but I'm just super anxious and paranoid.... :beat:

You should check the USC Pharmacy school specific thread and see what other people's stats are/ what other people's processes have been like...

And to answer your question: no they can't discriminate against your age but congrats on being so young and so accomplished already

Thanks for the reply! I already posted a similar reply to that thread but I think people are just minding their own business :D

I'm a bit relieved reading the posts of other people. My problem/issue is really nothing to worry about...

They'll accept you if they think you're ready for the program, regardless of age

I thought the OP said: Do pharmacy school "DECIMATE" your age? I was like yep... you go in at 22 and you leave 32 (exxageration) but it's somewhere along that line LOLOOLOL!

You're looking pretty good from what you've given us. Though I am a little concerned that you've only applied to a single pharmacy school; it seems a bit nerve-wracking to bank your chances on a single school. I feel you'd give yourself some breathing room if you had applied to maybe 5 or 6.

Regardless of you getting in this year or next year, I'm sure you'd be a solid candidate.

I feel inadequate applying this 2013 cycle so I don't want to waste much money on applying to many schools then get rejected LOL. Anyway, I am hoping for the best xD (Fingers crossed)

Thanks guys!

It's almost like me holding off on all supplemental applications until after my #1 choice school interview. Basically banking on getting accepted there. Stressful as hell, I tell you lol.

Yea, it does feel a little bit nerve wrecking. But I am just hoping for the best and keeping a positive outlook. :p Regardless, I will be a much stronger candidate next cycle. I'm studying to take the PCAT just in case because out of state pharm schools are tempting :)
