Hey whats up,
I'm a senior in undergrad, filling my file with rejections and waitlists. I have been offered a linkage post-bacc (" 5 yr program"). But I had a question. I would rather go to another school. So my question is this: the post-bacc program starts in june of '05 (1 month after i graduate), have any of you or do any of u think it is feasible for me to retake the mcat this summer, while attending the first sem of the the program, and re-apply thru AMCAS again in june?? So that I won't have that lag year, b/c if I do better on the MCATs, I could go to another school immediately after I have completed my post-bacc year. If this could be done, I'll gladly accept the 1-year program.

If not, I would think about transfering after 2 years although I hear this is really hard. And, wouldnt a low MCAT score still hurt my chances of acceptance even as a transfer student?? Or do they not look at MCAT scores anymore once you've already been accepted and are attending a med school?

Thanks.

It would seem to me that if the MCAT was possibly the reason that you didn't get as many acceptances as you would have liked, that maybe trying to study to do better in the Aug05 test WHILE working through first semester of a post-bacc might not be the best focus.

I think the better choice is to make the hard choice: either commit to the 5 yr plan and KNOW that you're going to med school, or decide that you'll take your chances with a re-app for next years cycle and retake the MCAT.

Otherwise see if you can defer the acceptance you have for the 5-yr plan to the following summer and then pursue your re-app knowing that if that doesn't pan out, you can always go the 5-yr way.

Good luck...btw, which school offered the 5-yr plan? One in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
